I transitioned (some call it retirement) in 2018 after 38 years as the coordinator of the Center for Environmental Education at PNW BOCES. Each year, this program provided a wide diversity of environmental and sustainability programs to some 40,000 students. My favorite was the marine ecology program I ran 2-3 times a year in the Florida Keys.

 Since retiring in 2018, I collaborated in the establishment of the Center for Sustainability & Climate Education at Dutchess BOCES, co-organized several youth climate summits, mentored a youth team in my hometown that took first place in the national Biomimicry Youth Design Challenge, and authored and self-published two children’s books, The Story of Velcro and The Story of Eco-Machines in the book series, How an Idea from Nature Changed Our World. I am currently working on 3 other books. I also continue to serve as a youth change-maker mentor. In retirement, I have chosen to focus on my expertise in biomimicry. As a biomimicry educator and member of the Biomimicry Institute’s International Leadership Team, I advise, support, and educate locally, nationally, and internationally. I offer a 3-part biomimicry program for 5-12th grade that culminates in a 3-hour mini design challenge. I also offer a half or full-day PD workshops for educators. My mission continues to be to educate, inspire, and support young people who want to make our world a healthier, more sustainable, and safer place, and encourage adults to do the same!
