Deeper Learning New York

I am an anthropologist of environmental education and my scholarship explores how cultural, political, and geographic factors influence climate change education. One strand of this research examines the institutionalization of climate change education at subnational and national levels in the United States and abroad. Another emerging strand investigates the rise of radical and violent responses to the climate crisis, and how education might interrupt those patterns. I have experience as a middle and high school earth science teacher, as an environmental educator in the informal sector, and I currently serve as an elected public school board official in rural Upstate New York. I am an appointed member of the National Academies of Sciences consensus study panel on Education for Thriving in a Changing Climate and have published broadly on environmental and climate education. I serve on multiple editorial boards including Environmental Education Research, the Journal of Environmental Studies and Sciences, and Policy Futures in Education.
